Pilates Mat Classes
NW Community Yoga offers Pilates classes based in the Pilates Method
Group Pilates Mat Class - Saturday 12:30pm & Tuesday 4:30pm
Drop in rate: $15 (class cards and memberships are available)
This mat class is based on the unique system of stretching and strengthening exercises created nearly a century ago by Joseph H. Pilates. Pilates exercises strengthen and tone the muscles of the entire body, improve posture, flexibility and balance, and unite the body and mind.
Pilates exercises initiate from the "powerhouse" - the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, hips and buttocks - and flow outward to the extremities. Although it focuses on abdominal work, Pilates also includes side series exercises for hip mobility, inversions, rolling exercises and upper body work.
Athletes can use Pilates to great advantage. Pilates core stabilization exercises and flexibility training can benefit cyclists, rowers, runners, skiers, swimmers and tennis players - as well as golfers!
This class is appropriate for all ages and all fitness levels. Students receive individualized attention, and beginners are always welcome. To add variety and fun to the class, props such as foam rollers and balls are often used in conjunction with more traditional Pilates floor exercises.
About the Instructors:
Debra Dragovich (Saturday 12:30-1:30pm) has been practicing Pilates for several years and has been teaching Pilates for 4 years.
